Toure blames ref Rasmussen for draw

Manchester City manager laments the decision not to award his side a penalty in the last minute of the game.

Yaya Toure has blamed referee Peter Rasmussen for Manchester City's 2-2 draw with Ajax on Tuesday.

• Marcotti: No conspiracy behind City's struggles
• Jolly: More Allardyce than Ajax
• Blog: Manchester City's lights go out

The Ivorian midfielder said the Danish official cost City victory in a must-win game, which leaves them with just two points from their four matches.

Manager Roberto Mancini went on to the pitch after the final whistle to confront Rasmussen, complaining that Sergio Aguero had a winning goal disallowed, with replays proving that Aleksandar Kolarov was not offside before crossing for the Argentine.

And Toure felt City were denied two penalties, with the match ending just after Ricardo van Rhijn tugged Mario Balotelli back in the Dutch champions' box.

He said: "The referee decided this game for me, because there were two clear penalties, one in the first half and one in the second with Mario. I am sure we were unlucky."

City trailed 2-0 after Siem de Jong's brace, which both followed corners, before Toure himself and Aguero struck in a City comeback.

The 29-year-old added: "We went two down to set pieces and after that it was difficult because Ajax are a good team and they play good football."

The result leaves City on the brink of elimination. With two games to go, they are six points behind group leaders Borussia Dortmund and five adrift of Real Madrid, who visit the Etihad Stadium on November 21.

But Toure, who was a Champions League winner in 2009 with Barcelona, is refusing to admit defeat in City's bid to reach the last-16 for the first time.

He said: "It's disappointing and difficult. But I think it's not finished. We have a couple of games left and we have to continue to work hard and try to take our chance, believe.

"In football it's not finished. We have Madrid at home and Dortmund away and if we want to go through we have to win these games. We have to believe in God and I swear maybe we can still go through."
