Sao Paulo progress to Copa semi-final

Sao Paulo remain on track to claim their maiden Copa Sudamericana after progressing to the semi-final of the competition with a 5-0 thrashing of defending champions Universidad de Chile.

The Brazilian side took a comfortable two-goal lead into the match after the first leg in Santiago and they continued their dominance in the tournament thanks to a Jadson brace and goals from Luis Fabiano, Lucas and Rafael Toloi.

Sao Paulo had already secured their passage into the next round with three first half goals and despite coach Ney Franco giving his key players an early rest, the hosts put the result beyond doubt with Toloi and Jadson netting in the second half.

With a goal and an assist to his name, Lucas told Globoesporte.com that Sao Paulo are now a very realistic chance of winning their first Copa Sudamericana title.

"Each match I try to do my best like if it was the last one," he said. "I want to win this Copa Sudamericana and that is why I'm running a lot every game."

Sao Paulo will await the results from the three other quarter-final matches, with their opponent likely to be either Gremio, Independiente or Universidad Catolica.
