Fit-again Del Piero demands improvement

Alessandro Del Piero will return from a hamstring injury for this Saturday's crucial clash against rivals Melbourne Victory as Sydney FC look to recover from last weekend's 7-2 thrashing.

• A-League Angle: Case for the defence

Del Piero missed the heavy defeat to the Central Coast Mariners, with the Sky Blues conceding four goals in 12 minutes en route to their heaviest defeat.

The former Juventus star, though, has declared himself fit for this weekend, and urged his team-mates to focus solely on their showdown with Melbourne.

"We talked a lot, I don't think too much, but a lot about last Saturday," Del Piero said. "It's a really bad loss for us. We are really disappointed about what's happened. But Saturday we have another match. If we think too much about last Saturday, maybe we go on the field with some fear or something and it's not positive."

Asked what specifically Sydney will need to improve on this week, Del Piero said: "What? Maybe everything if we saw the last match. No, we did some good things ... but in the end the game last Saturday for us was a very, very bad day.

"That's why I try to joke because if we think about it too much maybe there will be much pressure on us. We understand it's not a good day for us but we have another game on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Sydney could welcome back defenders Adam Griffiths, Pascal Bosschaart and Fabio for the match at Allianz Stadium, but former PSV midfielder Jason Culina is expected to be eased into action in the coming weeks and will not feature this Saturday.
