Mirallas sets goal target

Everton striker Kevin Mirallas wants to finish his first season in English football with 10 goals and prove the club's striker troubles are history.

The £5.3 million summer signing from Olympiakos, who struck 20 times as they won the Greek title last season, is looking to become a reliable source of goals for a team who have struggled in the past to find a regular scorer.

Indeed, a tally of 10 goals was enough to make Jermaine Beckford and Louis Saha the club's joint leading scorers two seasons ago.

But manager David Moyes appears to have solved his problems up front with the acquisition of Nikica Jelavic and the improved form of midfielder Marouane Fellaini - and Mirallas wants to play his part too.

"I think at the moment I have more assists than I have goals," he told the Liverpool Daily Post.

"I've provided one or two decent passes for my colleagues to score, but at the same time I'm hoping to continue to improve in front of goal and I think 10 goals is a reasonable target for my first season. If I can manage 10 goals this season then that would be decent."

Jelavic raced away to end last season as the club's top scorer, with 11 goals in all competitions from just 16 appearances following his £5 million January move from Rangers.

Fellaini, meanwhile, has already matched his goal tally for the whole of last season, scoring five times for an Everton side who are fourth in the Premier League. Jelavic is just behind him on four, despite being off-form of late, while Mirallas has two.
