Pato stays calm after ending barren run

Alexandre Pato's first goal of the campaign was enough to earn Milan what could prove to be a vital Champions League point, but the striker insists he "just wants to help" his struggling team-mates.

• Blog: Milan making progress

The goal was the Brazilian's first since mid-January after missing almost eight months due to a variety of injuries but, speaking just after the final whistle of the 1-1 draw with Malaga, he told Sky Italia it changes very little with regards to his confidence.

He said: "Is it a weight off my shoulders? No, I'm relaxed and just need to play. I am coming back and want to help my team-mates, always doing my best and playing for the team. We need the fans to be close to us as coming to the stadium and hearing their roar gives you an extra gear.

"At times we might not be doing so well, but we still need the fans. Tonight the supporters were great and stayed with us to the end. I think we are growing and have found a good tactical system where we attack consistently.

"We're playing fairly well and now just need a victory. I dedicate the goal to those who are close to me."

Meanwhile, team-mate Matteo De Sciglio told Milan Channel how pleased the squad is for Pato and that they know they can now rely on him to help them recover from their poor start to the season.

The defender said: "We're happy for Pato, who has gone through some tough times, we know he's back and that we can count on him.

"We're aware that we played a good game against a strong team that caused us problems in the first leg too. We now know that to get through the group stages we'll have to battle in Belgium against Anderlecht."
