Quintero faints during training session

Pescara midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero gave his club a scare on Tuesday when he fainted during a training session and was rushed to hospital.

Quintero collapsed as the team prepared for their forthcoming clash with Juventus and was later was told a temporary drop in the flow of oxygen or blood to the brain was to blame. Ernesto Sabatini, the club doctor, told reporters he expected him to be released later in the day and there was no need for alarm.

He said: "He is feeling better and after a drip will probably be allowed to leave hospital this evening. It was probably an allergic reaction to some food or drink."

Meanwhile, manager Giovanni Stroppa denied reports he had considered resigning in protest after president Daniele Sebastiani's declaration he would be sacked if he failed to get a result against Parma last weekend. Pescara eventually won the match 2-0.

Asked about a potential resignation, Stroppa told Corriere dello Sport: "I never even thought of that. It would've been too easy after a victory and with the team out of the relegation zone.

"Seeing as I have never abandoned a situation when there is difficulty and, having been more than in the balance before the game with Parma, of course I wouldn't have done something like that.

"I have to be grateful to President Sebastiani because if it was not for him then perhaps I would no longer be the coach of Pescara."
