Hulk's sister released after kidnap ordeal

The sister of Brazil striker Hulk has been released unhurt after a day-long kidnapping ordeal in the north eastern city of Campina Grande, according to reports.

Angelica Aparecida Vieira de Souza, 22, was taken on Monday afternoon but local police chief Andre Rabelo revealed that she was released shortly after and returned to her family as the suspects argued over the ransom demands.

Investigator Marcos Paulo told The Associated Press: "She told us that she was abducted but wasn't hurt, that's what is important. We are continuing our investigation to understand exactly what happened. If it was indeed a kidnapping, as it seems it was, we have to work to find those responsible for it." No arrests have yet been made.

Hulk recently became one of the most expensive players in the world after he moved from FC Porto to Zenit St. Petersburg for €40 million in the summer and was targeted in a similar nature to that of Luis Fabiano and Robinho, who have both had their mothers kidnapped in recent years.

Zenit manager Acaz Felleger told Reuters that the striker had no plans to return immediately to Brazil and Zenit spokesman Evgeny Gusev told R-Sport: "The club is concerned with the incident, follows the course of events and supports our players in such a tough moment."
