Rajkovic return delayed by injury blow

Hamburg coach Thorsten Fink has given defender Slobodan Rajkovic a second chance after banishing him to the reserves in the summer - only for injury to delay his return.

Rajkovic, 23, was sidelined after a training ground fight with Heung Min Son and an outburst against the coach.

The Serbian defender put himself in contention for a return to the first team after making amends with Fink, but that will be delayed by around three weeks after he suffered a muscle injury in training.

Speaking after Fink had put him in the reserves, Rajkovic said: "Our coach is a liar. He has two faces, and sadly others on the team have the same opinion on him. Unlike me, they want to leave the club."

But he had a change of heart and, after the coach had said he would be recalled to the first-team picture, told the club's official website: "It was a huge mistake for which I am really sorry.

"It shows that Fink stands above things. He has not forgotten, but he has forgiven. I want to help and show I learned from it.

"It is up to me to correct the mistakes, take on responsibility and let my work on the pitch speak for itself."

Fink said the player had "suffered enough" and spoke of his sorrow at the injury setback, saying: "I feel very sorry for Boban. He was very ambitious to return and now will be sidelined for a while."
