Casillas: I'll back Ramos for Ballon D'Or

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has told France Football he will be voting for team-mate Sergio Ramos to win the Ballon D'Or.

Madrid colleague Cristiano Ronaldo told the same magazine that, if he could, he would vote for himself to win the prize - but Casillas, 31, said: "I prefer that recognition of my work comes from outside."

The winner of the prize for the year's best footballer will be announced on January 7, with Lionel Messi and Ronaldo the favourites.

"I think I'll vote for Sergio Ramos," Casillas said. "I can say that he has achieved the most complete season of his eight years. He was sensational throughout the Liga and the Euros.

"But people remember more about his missed penalty in the Champions League [against Bayern Munich] than everything he won. Yes, without a doubt Sergio Ramos will be my first option."

Ronaldo, also speaking to France Football, had said: 'If I could, I'd vote for myself. I am what I am and I'm happy with that. Being too humble isn't good. In Portugal, we say that too much humility is vanity.

But Casillas said: "I could not vote for me. It is a question of ethics. I prefer that the recognition of my work comes from outside."
