Rodgers planning to add to attack

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has pledged to provide Luis Suarez with a strike partner in the January transfer window.

• Blog: Missed opportunities
• Doubts persist over Holtby's future

Suarez, 25, scored his tenth goal of the campaign in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle, and afterwards Rodgers described the forward as "unplayable".

The Uruguay international, signed from Ajax for £22.8 million in January 2011, has been Liverpool's chief attacking threat this season, scoring seven of their 13 Premier League goals. He is also currently the club's only fit senior striker, as Fabio Borini is recovering from a foot injury while Andy Carroll is on loan at West Ham.

Rodgers acknowledges that attacking reinforcements are needed, with ESPN sources suggesting Schalke star Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is a potential target.

"We know he needs support going forward," Rodgers said. "If we can add the types of players we want to finish off the type of play we are producing it is going to be a really exciting team. For now we'll just keep plugging away, keep our heads down."

Suarez agreed a new long-term contract with the Reds in the summer and Rodgers added: "He is an absolute joy to work with. He's aiming to get better every day he trains, and he is still a young player. He's committed his best years to us here, which is brilliant. He just has a real hunger for the game. He has a hunger to score goals."

Defender Jose Enrique, meanwhile, feels the rest of the team must ease the burden on Suarez if Liverpool are to move up the table.

"Luis scored a lot of goals in Holland. He had a great record there and we know he will score a lot of goals for us," he told the Liverpool Echo. "He is still a young player and he has a lot of football to play.

"It's a dream to play with someone like him but we can't depend on one player. We need more players to score as we can't always look to Luis."

Sunday's draw has left Liverpool 12th in the Premier League, but Enrique is holding out hope that they can still qualify for the Champions League.

"Of course it's not a good position to be in the table," he said. "We want to be in the top four and at the moment there are many teams above us, but if we had beaten Newcastle we would have only been four points behind the Champions League positions.

"It's not that far away. If we were to win three or four games in a row, we would be up there."
