Gosling cooks Argyle's goose

Dorchester winger Jake Gosling netted the only goal of the game to dump his old club Plymouth out of the FA Cup and leave them counting the cost of Conor Hourihane's ninth-minute dismissal.

Dorchester Town winger Jake Gosling netted to dump his old club Plymouth Argyle out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win and leave them counting the cost of Conor Hourihane's ninth-minute dismissal.

• Sat: Macc pick of the shocks
• Second round draw

The Pilgrims got off to the worst possible start when Hourihane picked up two yellow cards inside the opening 10 minutes and were eventually punished after the break.

Exeter loanee Gosling, released by Plymouth aged 16, smashed home the winner from close range to book Dorchester a second round clash at fellow non-League outfits Luton or Nuneaton.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Plymouth still managed to create the first genuine chance of the game when Onismor Bhasera hit the side-netting in the 25th minute.

Two minutes later, Charlie Clough hit the upright with a headed effort for the Blue Square Bet South outfit following a Jon Garcia corner.

Jamie Lowry threatened for the Pilgrims with a long-range effort in the 40th minute but it was comfortably collected by Dorchester goalkeeper Jason Matthews.

Dorchester edged in front in the 49th minute when long-serving defender Mark Jermyn nodded a left-wing cross into the path of Gosling, who fired home from close range.

This lifted the Magpies' spirits and they enjoyed a dominant spell with Jamie Gleeson and Garcia both going close before holding on to reach the second round.

Elsewhere, Calvin Zola salvaged a replay for Burton Albion in a 3-3 thriller against Blue Square Bet North side Altrincham.

The underdogs thought they had been handed victory in a topsy-turvy contest when Brewers defender Damien McCrory put through his own net in the 86th minute.

But Zola headed in a Jordan Chapell cross in the third minute of added time to spare the blushes of the League Two side.

Two other FA Cup first-round ties fell foul of the weather on Sunday, with Tranmere and Leyton Orient's trips to take on non-league opposition postponed.

Rovers' visit to face Essex outfit Braintree - who play in the Blue Square Bet Premier - will be re-arranged due to a waterlogged pitch.

A statement on Tranmere's official website confirmed that a pitch inspection had taken place at the Amlin Stadium at 11am, with the playing surface deemed to be unplayable.

Gloucester City, who play in the Conference North, subsequently announced the postponement of their home clash with League One club Orient on their official website, with the Whaddon Road pitch also waterlogged.

New dates for the postponed games are yet to be announced.
