Liverpool and QPR hit back to draw

Luis Suarez was once again the centre of attention as Liverpool came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against 10-man Newcastle United on Sunday - in a game they were unlucky not to win in the closing stages.

Yohan Cabaye gave Alan Pardew's side the lead at Anfield on the stroke of half-time with a beautifully struck effort, as Newcastle started the game brightly. An outstanding piece of individual skill from Suarez then levelled matters with just over 20 minutes remaining - before Fabricio Collocini was dismissed for a horrible attempted challenge on the Uruguayan that set up a tense finale. Pardew later accepted the referee's decision.

Handed the numerical advantage Liverpool had a number of great chances to win the match - but Suarez, Raheem Sterling and substitute Jonjo Shelvey were all unable to beat Tim Krul as the points were shared.

Ahead of kick-off there was a celebratory mood on Merseyside, as Steven Gerrard was presented with an award for reaching 600 appearances for the club.

In the day's early kick-off, Reading and QPR shared the points in an entertaining 1-1 draw that did little to help either side's early season troubles.

Both enmeshed in the bottom three, it was Reading who took the lead early in the first half at Loftus Road - Kaspars Gorkss volleying home against his former club after Ryan Nelsen's improvised header had ricocheted away off the crossbar.

QPR enjoyed the majority of the chances in a contest that was notable for its open nature, but it took until midway through the second half for Mark Hughes' side to grab a much-needed equaliser, Djibril Cisse showing some belated quality to turn home Jose Bosingwa's pinpoint cross.

The Frenchman was one of a number of players to have chances to win the match late on - Adel Taarabt also seeing a great chance turned wide by Alex McCarthy - but in the end the match finished level, leaving both sides with work to do to escape from the relegation zone.
