Leverkusen move into top four

Bayer Leverkusen got the better of Rhineland neighbours Fortuna Dusseldorf 3-2 at the BayArena to move up to fourth in the Bundesliga table.

• Sat: Bayern go seven clear
• Blog: Bayern win again

Sidney Sam, Andre Schurrle and Gonzalo Castro got the goals for the home side with Nando Rafael and Adam Bodzek on target for the visitors. Leverkusen were also reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute when Simon Rolfes was sent off but scored their third goal moments later.

Dusseldorf's fans will make the 20-mile trip home proud of their team's efforts, but facing the reality of what is becoming a relegation battle in spite of a five-game unbeaten start to their first campaign back in the top flight in 15 years.

The defeat leaves them in 15th place, just two points above the bottom three while Leverkusen are now two points clear of defending champions Borussia Dortmund, nine adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich.

Werder Bremen moved above Mainz with a 2-1 win in an entertaining game at the Weser Stadion.

Aaron Hunt scored both goals for Thomas Schaaf's men, the second coming late in the game to render Adam Szalai's earlier equaliser worthless for Thomas Tuchel's side.

Bremen have now picked up seven points in their last three games while Mainz lost for the first time since September 25.
