Lennon asks Scots to give Brown a break

Celtic manager Neil Lennon will request that his captain Scott Brown is left out of the Scotland squad for the friendly in Luxembourg.

Brown, who has been troubled by a hip problem this season, played the first half of the recent World Cup qualifying game against Wales but missed the second and did not appear in that week's second qualifier of that week in Belgium.

The Celtic skipper is back on club duty and is in the squad for the Premier League game at Dundee United, but Lennon said he believed he needed a break and should miss the friendly.

"Ideally I would like him to be left out of that because we have a heavy schedule of games," he said. "Scott has proved beyond doubt that he is good enough to play for Scotland - he is playing the best football of his career this season.

"He did come back from the Scotland trip not in the best condition, but we half expected that and there is no blame apportioned.

"But I think, if there is an opportunity for him to have a break, then we will be asking for that. Charlie [Mulgrew], Kris [Commons] or James [Forrest] won't be withdrawn, but Scott is an ongoing issue."
