Hughton hails Stoke model

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton has described Stoke City as an "excellent role model" for his team as they look to establish themselves in the Premier League.

• Norwich blog: Upsetting the odds

Stoke have surpassed expectations since securing promotion in 2008 and have recently managed to attract a number of big-name players, most notably Peter Crouch and Michael Owen, to the Britannia Stadium.

With Norwich still finding their way at Premier League level, Hughton says Norwich can learn much from Saturday's visitors to Carrow Road.

"They are an excellent role model for the likes of ourselves," Hughton said. "In this division, after getting promotion you normally have a few tough years but they have improved every year and have brought in better quality every year.

"They are is a very well established Premier League team now. I'm sure they couldn't bring in someone of the quality of Michael Owen six or seven years ago."

Norwich go into the game with a three-match unbeaten run in all competitions, but Hughton knows they must be on their guard against the Potters.

"Stoke are really tough opposition," he said. "The quality of the players that they have brought in is good. They are a hard-working, well-disciplined team with good quality in their side and they have had some really tough games already. That's why it will be difficult when we play them."
