Ayew avoids serious injury

Marseille have received a boost with the news that Andre Ayew didn't break his foot during the Coupe de la Ligue defeat against PSG on Wednesday night.

The Ghana international, 22, left the pitch in the 65th minute with Marseille medical staff fearing a fracture on Ayew's metatarsal, the same injury suffered by striker Andre-Pierre Gignac against Troyes two weeks ago.

But the injury is not as serious as first thought, with the club confirming that he ''suffered cuts and a knock to his foot and will be monitored for the next 48 hours" after undergoing tests on Thursday.

The length of Ayew's absence is still unclear but he will not be available for Marseille's game against Ajaccio on Sunday.
