Montpellier boss in 'training ground row'

Montpellier coach Rene Girard had an altercation on the training ground with midfielder Marco Estrada, according to reports in France.

L'Equipe reports that Tuesday's training session was disrupted when Girard asked the Chilean to remove a bib marking out the players who were set to start Wednesday's Coupe de la Ligue last-16 tie against Bordeaux.

Estrada took issue at this instruction and left the field, with television cameras later capturing the pair in a heated exchange.

In his pre-match press conference later on Tuesday, Girard tried to play down the incident. "He had headaches, he went to look for aspirin," he said. "The group is good. There are bad moods sometimes but that's the life of a group."

Estrada is still expected to be in the matchday squad for the tie at the Stade de la Mosson, although he may only get a place on the bench.

Earlier in October, Girard was given a two-match touchline ban and a €5,000 fine after being found guilty of improper conduct by UEFA.

European football's governing body decided to take action after Girard had raised his middle finger at the opposition bench when a row took place during his side's 2-2 Champions League draw with Schalke.
