Ruud Gullit has described Cristiano Ronaldo as the ideal player, and hit out at people who single him out for abuse because of his good looks.
Gullit claims Ronaldo suffers from jealousy in much the same way that another former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger, David Beckham, did, even hinting that he doesn't receive the praise he deserves for his contribution to the Spanish champions.
Ronaldo has already scored 19 goals for club and country this season, and notched a remarkable 123 goals in just 110 games for Madrid.
"For me, he's the ideal player," Gullit said. "He's fast, tall, is good with his head, is technically good, shoots penalties, takes good free-kicks and he's a leader. The same thing happens to him as it did to Beckham; people criticise them because they are envious that they're very good-looking."
Gullit also weighed in on the the Ronaldo v Lionel Messi debate, backing the Portuguese star as the better player because of his contribution for his country.
"I think Cristiano Ronaldo is a phenomenon," he said. "Messi has problems when he's with Argentina because they say he feels more Catalan than Argentinean. Of course, he's lived there since he was 12. But I think that Real Madrid loves having Cristiano Ronaldo as a player."
