Moyes: Suarez 'lucky' to avoid red

Everton boss David Moyes believes Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was a 'lucky man' to avoid seeing red in Sunday's Merseyside derby.

• Everton 2-2 Liverpool
• Jolly: Suarez centre stage
• Blog: Reds robbed?

Suarez received a yellow card for clattering into the back of Sylvain Distin's leg, but Moyes claims the late challenge should've seen Liverpool down to ten men.

"I've got to say he was a really lucky man to stay on the pitch for his tackle," Moyes said. "If you've not seen the one down the back of Sylvain's legs, it is definitely [a red card]. I've seen the video of the tackle."

But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has denied there was malice behind the Uruguyan's tackle.

"I don't think it was a red, I don't see that," he said. "Sometimes you get that with strikers. It's just a fraction out. He tried to play the ball."

Suarez helped Liverpool open the scoring in 2-2 draw when his cross was deflected off Leighton Baines in the 14th minute. He then raced over to Moyes and dived to the ground - a response to Moyes's comments before the match that the striker's antics turn away fans.

Moyes rose from the bench and was joined by a hostile home crowd in berating Suarez, but he insists he was not infuriated and would have returned the favour if Everton netted a winner.

"I thought [the celebration] was great," Moyes said. "I actually quite liked that. It's the sort of thing I might have done if we'd scored at the end.

"I was going to do it if we'd scored a third. I just think you have to be careful what you do. What the players do on the pitch sometimes has an effect on the crowd. He is going to have to dive in front of a lot of managers now."
