Sydney FC's marquee men Alessandro Del Piero and Brett Emerton were heroes as Ian Crook's side downed Perth Glory 2-1 at ANZ Stadium.
Sydney came from a goal down to wrestle the three points from last season's runners-up and record their second straight win in what was a lacklustre performance.
Travis Dodd opened the scoring for Perth in the 18th minute after tearing apart the Sydney defence, as the visitors controlled much of the first half. It was a different story in the second, however, as Perth went down to 10 men after Steve Pantelidis was sent off for bringing down Emerton in the penalty area.
Alessandro Del Piero stepped up and slotted home the spot-kick, with a little help from the left upright, ensuring he got his name on the scoresheet for the third consecutive game.
Emerton then nabbed the winner a short time later after Rhyan Grant dispossessed Liam Miller, the former Blackburn midfielder finishing with a delightful chip over the hapless Danny Vukovic in goal for the Glory.
Ten-man Perth pressed hard for an equaliser late and should have had a penalty after Rhyan Grant handled in the box, but the claims were rejected.
In the day's other game, the Central Coast Mariners defeated Melbourne Heart 1-0 thanks to a goal from Pedj Bojic. The Mariners win lifts them into the top four and leaves the Heart just one place off the foot of the table.
The Mariners welcome Del Piero and Sydney FC to Bluetongue Stadium next weekend.
