Mourinho makes light of injury concerns

Real Madrid will be looking to stretch their unbeaten run in La Liga when they travel to Mallorca on Sunday despite currently being in the midst of an injury "crisis".

• Mourinho faces selection headache
• "Real" chance at Bale move
•  Real will still progress in UCL
• No mental issue for Madrid

Madrid manager Jose Mourinho joked that the situation had become so bad that he would have to play Argentina forward Gonzalo Higuain at left-back on Sunday, due to a lack of numbers in defence.

Marcelo and Fabio Coentrao are currently struggling with foot and muscle injuries and doubts remain over Sergio Ramos, however Mourinho expects him to take his place in the side.

The Portuguese boss didn't seem to be feeling the pinch of Madrid's player shortage, however, as he shared some light-hearted banter with the media regarding the injury concerns.

"Tomorrow the left-back will be Higuain," Mourinho said. "He is fast, strong, he crosses well with his left foot and he scores goals."

The Portuguese issued a stern warning not to take Mallorca lightly ahead of the clash at the Iberostar Stadium.

"It is going to be a complicated match. Mallorca is a good team, they have a great coach, and their stadium is a difficult place to visit. We have to try and come home with the three points, but it is clear that it is going to be a very difficult game," he said.

"Ramos is alright and can play. He is a player who thinks of the team and has made himself available because he knows that the team has problems at the back. He and Pepe are very good, while [Ricardo] Carvalho is working well."

Recent reports have linked Gareth Bale with the Spanish giants, but it was his former Spurs team-mate Luke Modric who came in for special praise from Mourinho for the way he has settled in at the club.

"I am happy with Modric's development whether or not he plays tomorrow. We signed him for his versatility, and whenever he has played he has performed well. I trust him more and more," Mourinho said.

"Higuain and [Karim] Benzema are two good players, and the fact that they have more or less goals does not bother me, because they will get to the end of the season with more or less the same numbers as last season."
