Aldridge critical of Suarez's finishing

Liverpool legend John Aldridge fears Luis Suarez will never transform himself into a natural goal scorer, even though he is the only striker available to Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers ahead of Sunday's Merseyside derby.

• Moyes hits out at Suarez
• Rodgers predicts firecracker derby

Aldridge was a prolific scorer during his days as Liverpool's leading marksman, but Uruguayan Suarez has struggled to make the most of the chances that have come his way in front of goal this season and the club's former hero suspects that story is set to continue.

"He is not a natural goalscorer and cannot turn himself into one," said Aldridge in Ireland's Sunday World newspaper. "I remain a huge fan of Suarez and believe he is close to being a world class footballer in many respects, yet he will never be classed among the game's true greats as he has a major problem when it comes to the most important part of this game - sticking the ball in the back of the net.

"He snatches at everything in front of goal, tries to hit the ball to hard and often panics when he is presented with a keeper and that nice big goal frame to aim at. You have either got it or you haven't when it comes to penalty box poaching and sadly for Liverpool, Suarez falls into the latter category.

"My advice would be simple. Look forward to a chance coming your way, don't fear it, and when the moment arrives, try and find a corner of the goal because however hard you hit a shot, keepers find it hard to get balls pinged into either corner of their goal.

"There will be days when everything comes off for Suarez and the wonder show when he grabbed at hat-trick at Norwich last month was an example of a game when it all went his way, but unfortunately those occasions are the exceptions and not the norm."

Aldridge went on to suggest Liverpool boss Rodgers needs to get his transfer business done early in the January transfer window, with striking re-enforcements needed as soon as possible at Anfield.

"Rodgers has little or no chance of success at Liverpool this season unless he adds a top quality striker to his squad on January 1st, but signing players like Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao or Newcastle's Demba Ba will not be easy for my old club in the current climate," he added.
