Borussia Dortmund got back to winning ways in the Bundesliga a week after their derby defeat to Schalke by beating Freiburg 2-0 in the snow at the Dreisamstadion.
Although the home team dominated the first half, Neven Subotic headed Dortmund in front ten minutes after the interval. Mario Gotze then added a second late on as Dortmund built on their midweek Champions League win over Real Madrid by moving back up to fourth in the domestic standings.
Bas Dost scored two of three Wolfsburg goals in the space of 14 minutes as they produced a strong 4-1 victory at ten-man Fortuna Dusseldorf in the first match under interim head coach Gunther Kostner.
Dost struck in the 50th minute before Ivica Olic made it 2-0 three minutes later with Dost adding his second goal in the 64th minute. Dusseldorf trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the 71st minute with Jens Langeneke's spot kick but Diego ended all doubts with his penalty in the 78th minute which resulted in Oliver Fink being sent off.
Wolfsburg, who sacked boss Felix Magath after just five points and two goals in their first eight matches, came into the match bottom of the table but they now have eight points.
Schalke continued their fine start to the season with a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Nurnberg.
Jefferson Farfan scored the only goal of the game in the 77th minute as the hosts maintained the pressure on Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.
Greuther Furth scored their first home goal of the season as they claimed a 1-1 draw against Werder Bremen.
Edu put Furth ahead in the eighth minute before Nils Petersen equalised in the 44th minute for Bremen. Despite the point, Furth dropped to bottom with six points while Werder moved to 11 points.
Adam Szalai scored a hat-trick as Mainz won 3-0 against Hoffenheim to make a push up the Bundesliga table.
Szalai was on target in the 21st, 46th and 64th minutes to increase his season's goal tally to seven. Mainz jumped to 14 points with the victory while Hoffenheim - who have the worst defensive record in the league with 20 goals conceded - remained on just eight points.
