Trending: Leicester City shock Liverpool

Victory deny move for clubless Kewell

Former Liverpool winger Harry Kewell continues his search for a club after A-League club Melbourne Victory denied they are chasing the Australian.

Kewell, 34, left Victory in June to move to the UK for personal reasons after his wife Sheree Murphy's mother became gravely ill.

He was then linked with Premier League club Stoke City after being seen training with the Potters, but the club reportedly never had an interest in signing him.

Championship clubs Blackburn and Middlesborough as well as League One outfit Swindon Town have also moved into the picture for Kewell's signature, but he is yet to reach a formal agreement.

The clubless Kewell was spotted boarding a plane from London to Melbourne on Thursday, sparking rumours that he would return to the A-League.

However, a club spokesman ruled out the re-signing of Kewell, insisting Victory have no room for him.

"We've got a full squad and two marquee players and no money so he certainly won't be playing with us," the spokesman said. "We have no money left in the salary cap."

It is believed Kewell is in Australia to fulfill sponsorship agreements and is not yet looking for a contract in the country.

A number of clubs, including Sydney FC, Melbourne Heart and newcomers Western Sydney Wanderers were all rumoured to be seeking Kewell's services, but the speculation goes on as the 34-year-old looks to revive his career.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
