Stoke primed to get back on attack

Stoke City are looking to get back on the front foot as they emerge from a run of fixtures in which they have faced Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Tony Pulis's side face Sunderland at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday at the start of what looks a less challenging sequence.

Matches against Norwich, QPR, West Ham and Fulham are also around the corner, and in-form winger Michael Kightly hopes he and his team-mates will be able to display a more attacking side to their game.

The former Wolves player, 26, who has started all eight of Stoke's League games in 2012-13, said: "It has been frustrating at times because we've obviously had a tough start to the season that has required a lot of defending. That's something we have to do against the bigger sides.

"But, looking ahead to the games coming up - and no disrespect to those teams - I'd like to think we'll have a bit more of the ball.

"You've still got to work hard and be hard to beat, but hopefully we can stamp our game on other teams."

Stoke's draw-dominated start to the season has brought only one win and two defeats to date, with the latter of those losses coming at Old Trafford five days ago, when Kightly scored a fine goal.

His sprint through Sir Alex Ferguson's defence was reminiscent of the exciting form he showed at Molineux before being hit by injuries, and he wants to show Potters fans much more of the same in the coming weeks.

"I like to play that way," he added. "Sometimes, you over-think things and worry about the negatives, but I like to be positive when I get the ball."
