Lomas plays down Burnley link

St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas has played down speculation linking him to the vacant managerial post at Burnley.

The Clarets have begun their search for Eddie Howe's successor, with former Watford manager Sean Dyche and Falkirk boss Steven Pressley reportedly in the frame along with Northern Irishman Lomas.

St Johnstone are in second place in the Premier League behind Celtic following their 2-1 win over Kilmarnock last week, which equalled a club record of five straight top-flight wins dating back to 1971.

But Lomas, preparing for Saturday's trip to Inverness said: "I think it is just speculation. ''There will be loads of people in for that.

"It is flattering and it proves that the lads must be doing something right but we are just focused on Inverness, it is a massive game on Saturday and we want to break that record. I don't want to talk about speculation, it is purely that.''

Meanwhile, Burnley have confirmed that caretaker manager Terry Pashley will remain in charge for Saturday’s Championship game at Cardiff City.

The club is continuing the process of appointing a new manager, but no appointment is expected ahead of the weekend. Pashley, who has overseen two successive victories against Blackpool and Bristol City, will therefore continue in his current role.

Information from the Press Association was used in this report.
