Sporting Lisbon have appointed Franky Vercauteren as their new manager in a bid to halt their slide.
The Portuguese side currently sit 12th out of 16 in the Primeira Liga, eight points behind leaders Porto, with just six point from six matches.
Vercauteren, a former Belgium international striker who has also assumed caretaker charge of the national side in the past, has been handed a one-year deal. He replaces Ricardo Sa Pinto who was axed earlier this month following a humbling 3-0 defeat against Hungarian side Videoton in the Europa League.
The club have failed to win the title since 2002 and haven't qualified for the Champions League for four years.
