Report: Lampard not going to Galaxy

The Los Angeles Galaxy are not actively pursuing a deal with Chelsea veteran Frank Lampard, the L.A. Times reported Wednesday.

The midfielder, 34, who has one year left on a $12 million per year contract which also has a loyalty bonus, has been a target for the MLS champions and fanned transfer flames this past July when he attended a Galaxy match with David Beckham. Although Lampard is not always the first choice for Roberto Di Matteo's starting XI, he has won the Champions League, three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups in the club's most successful era.

The Galaxy still doesn't have a spot for Lampard. MLS clubs may sign up to three designated players, whose salaries go beyond the $350,000 maximum hit to the salary cap. Beckham, Landon Donovan and Irish striker Robbie Keane occupy L.A.'s slots.

The Galaxy's regular season finishes Sunday against the Seattle Sounders. MLS playoffs begin Nov. 1 at home with Vancouver.
