I'm not retiring, says Bayern's Robben

Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben has stressed that he does not intend to retire despite voicing frustration at the continued impact of injuries on his career.

Robben, 28, told Dutch TV on Tuesday that he sometimes thought of ending his playing days as his injury problems continued.

He has played only three Bundesliga matches this season and has been sidelined with thigh and back problems.

And speaking to the NOS TV channel on Tuesday, he said. "Sometimes it's really tough and then I think: 'Leave me alone, that's it, I'll pack my things and end my career.'"

Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes told reporters that fitness coach Thomas Wilhelmi had told him Robben had trained well this week and had not shown any reaction to the injury problems.

"You should not take that [retirement] for granted. Ajren was disappointed and frustrated. He will play more games for us and score goals," Heynckes added.

And Robben explained to Bild:"Out of frustration, because it takes so long, I had those thoughts. But no worries, I will be back soon. Retirement? Definitely not!"

Speaking to SID, Bayern's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer said: "He is a bit soft. But he is Dutch - and they are all a bit soft."
