Hernandez leaves Fergie pondering

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said Javier Hernandez's two-goal salvo against Braga on Tuesday has left him baffled over his best XI.

Hernandez scored twice for United at Old Trafford as they came from two goals behind to defeat Braga 3-2 in the Champions League.

Both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney also started the fixture - and although United won, they did look fragile defensively with so many attacking players on the field.

Ferguson admits that he has work to do to find the right blend between attack and defence in his starting XI.

"Some of the football was terrific tonight, but the goals we concede are a concern," he said on ITV. "He [Hernandez] has got me thinking. Him, Van Persie, Rooney... I don't know what to do with them to be honest."

Ferguson bristled after the game when asked if he had any regrets over his decision to rest veteran defender Rio Ferdinand.

"No, we have to look at the big picture - Rio, his age and a big game against Chelsea on Sunday," he said. "Then we play Chelsea again in midweek [in the Capital One Cup] and Arsenal again on the Saturday.

"We have a massive programme and it is important to utilise the squad we have. We have got injuries and putting Michael Carrick back there is not the best but we had to do it."
