Barkley to extend Wednesday stay

Everton midfielder Ross Barkley will remain on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday for another month.

Barkley, 18, has been one of the better performers in a Wednesday side who have picked up only two points from their last eight games.

The teenager has played in seven of those matches, scoring his first senior goal from the penalty spot in a 2-1 defeat at home to Bolton on September 22.

Barkley, who has made two Premier League starts for Everton, was sent to Hillsborough by manager David Moyes in order to gain first-team experience.

Moyes was at Hillsborough last Friday night to watch Barkley turn in an impressive display as Wednesday drew 1-1 with Leeds.

Wednesday manager Dave Jones said: "Ross has got better and better since he came here.

"The lad has a very bright future and playing games in the Championship will certainly help his development."
