Sevilla's Negredo targets Spain recall

Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo said he was waiting for a call from Spain coach Vicente del Bosque after his double strike helped the Andalucians beat Mallorca 3-2 and go fifth in La Liga on Monday.

Negredo featured in two of Spain's games at Euro 2012, starting the semi-final against Portugal, but has been replaced in squads for recent World Cup qualifying games by Valencia's Roberto Soldado.

After a crashing 15-yard drive and a towering header took his season's tally to six goals in eight games, the 'Shark of Vallecas' said he hoped he was doing enough to earn a recall.

"The only way to get back with the national team is to score goals and work well," he added. "I will be waiting on a call from Del Bosque but, if not, I will keep working."

Negredo said Sevilla had kept their heads even when goals from Pedro Bigas and Tomer Hemed had given Mallorca a 2-1 lead at half-time against the run of play.

"It was a good game," he said. "In the first half, they had two chances and scored two goals. The game was going against us, but we did not lose our cool."
