Lambert cools tensions with Norwich

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has tried to play down the feud between himself and former club Norwich ahead of their Premier League encounter this weekend.

• Blog: Lambert needs time

Lambert comes face to face with Norwich for the first time since his controversial exit in the summer as he tries to find a solution to Villa's worst start to a league campaign for 26 years.

Lambert has already made it clear he has been unhappy with his former chairman, Alan Bowkett, for revealing the details of his decision to sue Norwich for £2 million for breach of contract, but the Scot has tried to take the heat out of the potentially stormy meeting at Villa Park on Saturday.

"I have no animosity towards Norwich whatsoever," Lambert said. "I want to win any game and every game. I have huge gratitude towards Norwich City Football Club. I had a great time there and things go the way they are. I have no animosity for anyone there."

Villa are currently one point above the drop zone and one below Chris Hughton's team.

"It's a game we're going to try and win," Lambert added. "I know the Norwich lads probably as well as anyone but we have to win the game. It's our home game."

Norwich are suing Lambert for breach of contract, prompting him to launch a counter-claim against them following his bitter departure from Carrow Road in June.

The hearings involving are expected to be heard at the end of the season and the Villa boss confirmed the legal wrangle is rumbling on. "It's still ongoing and we will see what happens," he said.
