Cole opts against FA fine appeal

Chelsea defender Ashley Cole has decided not to appeal the fine of £90,000 handed to him by the Football Association as punishment for his foul-mouthed Twitter tirade against the organisation.

• Terry to wear anti-racism armband
• Di Matteo: No break for Terry
• Blog: Chelsea's skill and character

Cole, 31, admitted a charge of making a Twitter comment that was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, but while ESPN sources claim he believes the fine was excessive, the left-back will not contest it.

"Whilst disappointed with the fine imposed, Ashley has decided not to appeal," the source told ESPN.

The England international labelled the FA a "bunch of t****" on the social networking site after an FA independent regulatory commission investigating the John Terry racial abuse case had cast doubt on his evidence.

Cole quickly removed the offending remarks and apologised via his solicitor on the day the tweet was sent, before also saying sorry to England boss Roy Hodgson and FA chairman David Bernstein.

ESPN understands that despite the acceptance of the FA fine, Cole remains upset and angry with his evidence in the Terry case being called into question.
