Holloway top of Rovers' list

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has moved up the queue to be appointed the new Blackburn Rovers boss.

Blackburn are still searching for a successor to Steve Kean, who resigned his position at the end of September following intense pressure from supporters.

Rovers had drawn up a shortlist for his replacement but have been frustrated so far. Attempts to bring in former Blackburn midfielder Tim Sherwood, who is now on the coaching staff at Tottenham, have failed to bear fruit after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy denied the Championship side permission to hold talks. It had been hoped that Sherwood would walk out of White Hart Lane, but he has decided against that course of action.

Molde boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Blackburn he cannot be considered until the Norwegian season finishes in December, and ESPN has been informed that Rovers are unwilling to wait due to the club's dip in form. They have not won any of their four games in the Championship since Kean resigned.

While big-name coaches including Bernd Schuster, Roy Keane and Alan Shearer have expressed an interest in the position, some senior figures at Blackburn have identified Holloway as their preferred candidate due to his recent success in the division. Holloway steered Blackpool to promotion from the Championship in 2010 and reached last season's play-off final.

At his press conference after the 1-0 defeat to Burnley on Saturday, Holloway said he was tired of discussing a potential move to Ewood Park.

"I don't want to talk about any speculation," he said. "I am fed up of it. I haven't quartered any of it and I don't need it in my life and neither does anyone else. I don't know whether it affected the malaise of my lads at the start of the game but I am sick of it but that's life."

ESPN understands Blackburn are considering making an approach to Blackpool in the coming days.

Shebby Singh, the global advisor to Blackburn owners Venky's, earlier told ESPN: "We do have a shortlist and we are speaking to other people as well, but as for specific names such as Alan Shearer I cannot say anything. We shall carry on in a professional manner without any timeline or being forced by any outside influences to rush into an appointment."

Blackburn currently sit tenth in the Championship having taken 17 points from their first 11 games.
