Milan vow to keep faith with Allegri

AC Milan nearly staged a remarkable comeback after Lazio took a commanding 3-0 lead in the Stadio Olimpico.

AC Milan have insisted that Massimiliano Allegri will retain his job despite the coach warning they face a battle to stay clear of the relegation zone.

Following their 3-2 defeat at Lazio on Saturday night, Milan have made their worst start to a season in 60 years, taking only seven points from their opening eight games.

The club's vice-president, Adriano Galliani, said during the week that the Lazio result would not lead to Allegri's sacking, but the coach acknowledged to Sky Sport on Saturday that his future may be in doubt.

"I think it always depends on the club," Allegri said. "It's normal that if the team is not getting results the coach will come under scrutiny. Maybe a bit too much so, but we have seven points from eight games and we have to move up the table. The table is what it is."

If they fail to improve, he said, they "will get sucked back into the relegation zone".

Galliani said the club has not changed its position over Allegri.

"The coach stays in his job and has to try and make sure that the team puts points on the table and find the right solutions to get us out of this situation," he told Milan Channel. "There's no desire whatsoever to change the coach."

He added: "It's a tough moment and we need the strength to stay calm and get over this moment that we're in. We're getting no luck whatsoever at the moment but things will change. We keep going."
