Bayern chief: Heynckes may stay on

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has hinted that Jupp Heynckes might remain Bayern coach for another season in an interview with Sky News on Thursday.

Despite the ongoing discussion on a possible Mirko Slomka move to Munich, with Hannover president firing up rumors in a recent interview, Bayern president Hoeness still hopes Heynckes will remain coach for another year.

"Currently, Matthias Sammer does not have to look for a new coach," he told Sky News. "We don't know if we will need a new coach. Nobody builds the Bayern future alone, but rather we together make what will in the end hopefully be the right decisions. They could also lead to Heynckes staying for another year."

Sammer and Heynckes had recently clashed after the Bayern general manager commented that giving "95% might not be enough". The comments made after Bayern's sixth straight win of the season in Bremen, were described by Heynckes as "populism, and we don't need that here".

"From day one, media tried to drive a wedge between the two," Hoeness said. "They might have succeeded here and there, but in the long run they won't succeed."

Bayern travel to Dusseldorf on Saturday, where they will try and win for a record eight time in only eight Bundesliga matches. Dutch international Arjen Robben will not be on board.

"It is frustrating. Ultimately, I feel fit and still I've been sidelined for three weeks now," Robben told Bild.

"I want to play, help the team and have fun. But I don't know when I'll be playing again. I must wait and keep calm about it. My thigh problems result from my back problems. They spread as far as the thigh muscle."

However, Austria international David Alaba, 20, could make his league debut. He returned to football with a bang on Tuesday, scoring his first goal for Austria in a 4-0 win over Kazakhstan.

"The boys have played really good so far," Alaba told TZ. "Heynckes has purpose. But if I get my chance, I will take it."
