Arteta: Giroud ready to strike back

Arsenal's Mikel Arteta says his team-mate Olivier Giroud has finally found his scoring boots and the added confidence will allow the Frenchman to unleash his skills on the Premier League.

• Wilshere ready to return

Giroud, 26, made headlines during the week with his stoppage-time goal for France earning his country a vital point in their World Cup qualifier against world champions Spain.

The striker opened his account for Arsenal in their 3-1 win over West Ham prior to the international break, with Giroud's recent success putting to bed the doubts raised by many since his arrival in England.

Arteta believes that with Giroud having finally shaken the monkey from his back, his new found confidence will allow him to find the form he exhibited in Ligue 1.

"I'm happy for him. It was a bit hard at first because he had pressure and had to come after van Persie, so it wasn't easy," Arteta told RMC.

"He always works very hard and has a very good attitude. I'm very happy, last week he already scored for us and now he scored for France. He'll be even more confident now. That is a good thing for the team."

Arteta has been one of the standout performers this season for Arsenal, with his recent form leading to calls for Spain manager Vicente del Bosque to include him in the national squad, however Arteta does not believe he is a requirement for his country yet.

"The others [Spain midfielders] are better than me," Arteta said. "I didn't have the chance to come from the same generation as them, for me, It's really the most successful one. We never had such good Spanish midfielders. I understand that for me it's very difficult to have a go in this team, they are all great players who play in very strong European team."

Both Arteta and Giroud will be in action for Arsenal this weekend when they travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City.
