FA fines Cole over tweet

Ashley Cole has been fined £90,000 by the Football Association for his criticism of the governing body on Twitter.

• Terry decides against appeal
• Blog: Chelsea open door for Cole

• England to follow Twitter rules

The Chelsea left-back, who won his 99th England cap in Wednesday's 1-1 draw in Poland, admitted the charge that his comment was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute. The 31-year-old was also warned about his future conduct.

Cole's comments were in relation to the FA's independent regulatory commission questioning his evidence during the hearing into John Terry's racial abuse charges.

He reacted angrily to the ruling, and used a hashtag containing a swearword in his criticism of the FA's verdict of his testimony.

Cole tweeted: "Hahahahaa, well done #fa I lied did I, #BUNCHOFTW***"

Cole had since apologised personally to FA chairman David Bernstein and accepted the disciplinary action against him. The incident prompted the FA to introduce a new code of conduct for all players who represent England at any level.
