Napoli's Mazzarri may quit coaching

Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri has admitted he may "possibly" quit coaching at the end of the season after growing disillusioned with things he sees and hears in football.

• Allegri given more time

Mazzarri, 51, joined Napoli in 2009 and led the Serie A club to a Coppa Italia victory earlier this year.

With his contract expiring in June 2013, Mazzarri has shown no desire to remain in his position at Napoli, telling Calciomercato.com that reviving Reggina after being deducted points during the 2006 match fixing scandal is more significant than leading a traditional Serie A giant.

"I understand that at those clubs, traditionally, you win more but, for me, some things mean even more than winning," Mazzarri said. "Saving Reggina despite so many penalty points is still more than a title for example.

"I've never been jealous of others. What interests me [is] that they are happy with me and that I have coached the players I have coached. Presidents have every right to make the choices they want, they are the ones risking capital.

"I live from day to day, sometimes I hear and see the things that make me want to quit, give up.

"After the Italian Super Cup loss to Juventus in Beijing I had a desire, a real desire, to resign. Could I stop at the end of the season? Yes, that is possible."

Napoli face Juventus in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend, which Mazzarri has insisted "is not a playoff for the title".
