Roar have feet on ground, says coach

Larger-than-life striker Besart Berisha may feel "a few centimetres taller" but Brisbane coach Rado Vidosic insists the Roar are keeping their feet on the ground after their record last round win.

The two-time and defending A-League champions removed any doubts caused by their season-opening loss in Perth by blowing away ex-coach Ange Postecoglou's Melbourne Victory 5-0 last weekend.

It's provided a welcome spring in their step but Vidosic said they would be grounded by Sunday's showdown with the Phoenix in Wellington, including the excitable Berisha.

The Albanian international bagged a double in the romp over Victory, at one stage appearing to stir Postecoglou when he ran over to the sideline and eyeballed his ex-coach while celebrating a goal with Vidosic.

No-one may be able to change Berisha's extrovert ways but Vidosic said their culture of success would ensure it was business as usual against the Phoenix.

"It is always good to have a solid performance with great goals scored. Besart is a few centimetres taller," said Vidosic with a laugh on Thursday.

"(But) it is not something that is unusual for us. In the past we have had success week-to-week.

"The experience of playing in two grand finals and the (Asian) Champions League, it helps us.

"We have some older heads and there is a great culture we have developed over the years."

Vidosic seemed most impressed by the fact the Roar could put aside the emotion of playing against ex-coach Postecoglou and provide a not-so-subtle reminder of who were the reigning champions.

"It was a difficult week leading up to it so to have a great result is very pleasing," he said.

"Whatever is said (off-field)...once the game kicks off then you can see what these players are made of.

"I think they showed everyone on Saturday that we are still here and are going to be as competitive as ever."

But in worrying news for Wellington, Vidosic added: "There is a lot of room for improvement.

"Generally our defence has played much better than it did last year but we want to improve even more and make as many clean sheets as possible.

"Goals win you the game but clean sheets win you the title.

"We want to improve every game. That's how we have operated the last couple of games and we are not going to change that."

Vidosic confirmed Ivan Franjic would miss the trip with injury but said Henrique (heel) would travel, with more known on his availability after Friday's training session in Wellington.
