Balotelli hits back at Marwood

Mario Balotelli insists he "doesn't give a damn" about the recent criticism from Manchester City football administrator Brian Marwood.

• Marsh: City should sell Balotelli
• Platt unhappy with Balotelli

The former Arsenal winger suggested earlier this week that Balotelli, 22, is a poor role model who sets a bad example for City's younger players.

However, the striker has hit back saying he is not interested in what Marwood has to say and claims his work rate is up to scratch.

"I don't want to talk about this and I don't give a damn what he said," he told RAI Sport after helping Italy beat Denmark 3-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

"Both with Italy and City, I have always put the effort in and am improving in terms of my work rate. I have had this humility for a while and can continue to have it without problems."

Balotelli's last City appearance, in the 3-0 win over Sunderland, ended when he was substituted and went straight down the tunnel, rather than watching the rest of the game on the bench.

It led to criticism from assistant manager David Platt and renewed speculation that his eventful two-year stay in Manchester is nearing an end.

But Balotelli, who has long been linked with a move to AC Milan, is adamant he is happy in Manchester, while he also took another swipe at Marwood, claiming he should have spoken to him personally rather than the press.

"Do I earn too much to come to Milan? I don't know," he said. "Right now I am at Manchester, even if certain people for some reason like to say things to the papers and not to my face. I am happy in Manchester and get on well with my team-mates.

"Everyone tries to put some sort of problem between us, but I get along very well with Roberto Mancini. He cares for me and I care for him. Am I happy with my life? Very."

Balotelli scored Italy's third goal in their 3-1 win, his first for his country since his brace against Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-final.
