Lippi denies Drogba rumours

Shanghai Shenhua striker Didier Drogba will not be moving to rivals Guangzhou Evergrande, according to Guangzhou manager Marcello Lippi.

Drogba, 34, has been linked with a move to the Chinese Super League champions with Lippi believed to have been monitoring the player, whose future at Shanghai was thrown into doubt recently due an equity stake row among shareholders.

The China Daily even claimed Shenhua chairman Zhu Jun had blogged: "Somebody finally came to make a bid (for Drogba)."

However, Lippi has revealed that there is no truth whatsoever behind the rumours.

"I know nothing about Didier Drogba's move. I have never contacted him myself or via anybody since I took charge of Guangzhou," he told Xinhua news agency.

"I don't know how (the rumours) come.

"I am satisfied with my forwards. We already have Lucas, Muriqui, Cleo and Gao Lin, we don't need another Drogba."

Guangzhou currently top the league standings, three points ahead of Jiangsu Shuntian, and can retain their title by beating Shanghai, who are 16th, on October 27.

"I am confident about the team," Lippi added. "I believe we can defend the title."

Drogba has scored eight goals in 10 appearances since arriving in China, while Guangzhou's summer signing Lucas Barrios has failed to reach such high standards.
