McGlinchey keeps All Whites on track

A brace from Michael McGlinchey made it four wins from as many games for New Zealand in qualification for the 2014 World Cup as they defeated Tahiti 3-0.

• New Zealand keep up strong start

McGlinchey, who plies his club trade at Central Coast Mariners, opened the scoring at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch with a third-minute effort from outside the penalty area.

But New Zealand, despite dominating the match, did not wrap up the victory until the final moments as Chris Killen struck before McGlinchey netted his second in stoppage time.

The All Whites sit top of the Oceania group, three points above New Caledonia, who beat Solomon Islands 5-0 at Stade Numa-Daly Magenta in Noumea.

Georges Gope-Fenepej broke the deadlock after five minutes before Roy Kayara doubled the lead. Iamel Kabeu made it 3-0 before the half-time whistle.

Cesar Lolohea then helped himself to two goals in the space of 45 minutes to leave New Caledonia on nine points after four matches, with Solomon Islands in third.

Tahiti, meanwhile, are bottom of the standings, having failed to score a goal or win a point so far.
