Casillas denies rumours on Facebook

Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas has taken to Facebook to deny rumours of an internal feud at the club.

• Blog: Record-breaking San Iker

Persistent media reports in recent months have claimed that the goalkeeper was the leader of a Spanish clique in the dressing-room that did not get along with a Portuguese group - including Cristiano Ronaldo.

While there have also been reports that the Spain captain was leaking camp secrets to friends in the press and that he and Madrid boss Jose Mourinho did not get along at all.

Clearly outraged and confused by such stories, Casillas took to the social media site on Sunday to set the record straight to his fans.

"In recent months, unwittingly, I have been linked to several issues," Casillas wrote. "That I did not celebrate a goal because I am sad (people who know me know that if I concede a goal and I think I can do more, I get the hump).

"Another day that I do not support my team-mate Cristiano (there could not be a bigger fan of his play), another that I'm a mole and leak things (at this stage of my career and after 13 years at the world's biggest club, that is out of order). I believe all the sporting press know me, but to say that is me seems opportunistic.

"Then another issue: that Mourinho and I cannot stand each other (when he is someone who I respect above all and who has returned the team the greatest heights of success)."

Casillas joked to his almost eight million Facebook fans about reporters mistaking his house for a neighbour's, while he also hoped his team's form would pick up and assured fans their support was appreciated.

"What else?" Casillas wrote. "Oh yes! One that made me laugh: that they say I have a Spanish flag on the front of my house (when it is the front of my neighbour's house). Finally, I hope and wish that sporting things go better, and I assure you that I love you all. Remember: you are all appreciated!"

The message seems to have gone down well with the keeper's fans: by Monday morning the post had been liked by 127,945 people, shared by 7,477 and had received 13,717 comments.
