No Rovers approach for Sherwood

Spurs told ESPN on Sunday that, as yet, there has been no formal approach from Blackburn Rovers for their coach Tim Sherwood.

• Spurs plan to stay at the Lane

And the feeling is that Daniel Levy would refuse permission for the Championship club to speak with Sherwood, who is the overwhelming favourite for the job.

If Sherwood chooses to walk out on Spurs to manage the club where he won the Premier League title in 1995, it is thought Spurs would demand £3 million in compensation.

The lack of a move for Sherwood seems to support the idea that there is a split within the Blackburn hierarchy about appointing their former player, given he has no managerial experience. Blackpool's Ian Holloway is now being touted as the replacement for Steve Kean.

Shebby Singh, Rovers' global advisor, has also considered interviewing Alan Shearer, but he has had limited experience as a coach and didn't make much of an impression in his short spell in the dug-out with Newcastle United - who were relegated from the Premier League.

There are some within the Venky's organisation who believe that an experienced manager, such as former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, would be worthy of consideration. He is also on Bolton's short list, and Roy Keane has been linked with both clubs too.
