Pennant joins Wolves on loan

Jermaine Pennant has joined Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers on a three-month emergency loan deal.

•  Shawcross backed for England

•  Owen still hungry for success

Wolves have wingers Razak Boukari, Stephen Hunt and Slawomir Peszko all sidelined with injury, while Matt Jarvis was sold to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

Therefore manager Stale Solbakken has turned to Pennant, 29, who was told by Stoke manager Tony Pulis that he does not fit in with first-team plans at the Britannia and it would be in the player's best interests to spend some time on loan until the New Year.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club's official website: "Stale wanted to find a high quality replacement for our injured wingers and we're very pleased Stoke have agreed for Jermaine Pennant to join us on loan for an initial three month period.

"He is a high quality player and Stale is delighted to have secured his services until at least the New Year."

Pennant lost his place to £3m summer signing Michael Kightly and has only figured once in the Premier League this season.

Pennant held a brief discussion with manager Pulis and chose to reveal the news of the development on Twitter, but insisted there has been no fall-out with his boss, despite being disappointed at the development.

He tweeted before the Wolves move was confirmed: "The gaffa said I can go out on Loan to get some games! I was as shocked as much as some of you's will and I can promise we have not fell out.

"Can't go premier league only can go abroad or championship and I'm only agreeing until jan so be gone for 2 months or so. Stokies ill keep you updated I'm not gonna lie I'm gutted like but I gotta play!!"

Pennant said during the summer that he intended to knuckle down and win a regular role this season, after off field problems at the end of last season, insisting he was committed to Stoke and was ready to make an impact this season.

But he has appeared just twice for Pulis' side in all competitions and Stoke chairman Peter Coates is still looking to trim the squad at the Britannia, with Pennant now appearing to be a prime candidate for the exit door on a permanent basis once the transfer window reopens in January.

His last Premier League campaign ended under a cloud when he was arrested and subsequently admitted being over twice the legal limit, driving while disqualified and without insurance in Greater Manchester on April 29.

The winger was arrested after crashing his BMW and was banned from driving for three years and given an eight-week jail sentence, suspended for a year. He was also fined £80 costs and given a 12-month supervision order.
