Burnley reject Howe approach

Burnley have rejected an 'unsolicited and unwanted' approach from Bournemouth for manager Eddie Howe.

Howe, 34, left the Cherries to move to Burnley in 2011, replacing Owen Coyle in the dugout at Turf Moor, the former defender impressing as he achieved promotion to League One on a limited budget.

Now, following Bournemouth's decision to sack Paul Groves, Howe is being lined up for a return to Dean Court – but Burnley have been quick to dismiss the possibility of their manager, who is under contract until 2014, leaving.

"Bournemouth have made an unsolicited and unwanted approach for manager Eddie Howe," a Burnley statement said.

"Burnley Football Club would like to stress that no agreement has been reached and Eddie Howe is still Burnley manager. No permission has been granted for Bournemouth to speak to Eddie."
