Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini is hopeful he can recover from knee injury in time for the Merseyside derby.

The Belgium international was initially ruled out for three weeks with the injury sustained during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Wigan, though it was not detected for another two days until he was away on international duty.

Fellaini has now returned to his club for further assessment, and he hinted to the club's official website that he may be back in action earlier than expected.

Everton face local rivals Liverpool on October 28, but Fellaini thinks he may recover in time to make the derby clash.

"I am currently suffering from a knee injury: fortunately it is not too serious but I will have to miss the two games with Belgium,'' he said.

"I am hoping to be back playing for Everton as soon as possible.

"I am extremely disappointed and I now have to rest in order to get back to full fitness so I can help the team with some important games coming up."

Everton face bottom club Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road in their first match after the international break.
