Denisov ready to bury hatchet

Russia captain Igor Denisov wants to bury the hatchet with Zenit St Petersburg after being frozen out from the first team over an alleged salary dispute.

• Zenit reject wage concern

Denisov, 28, was recently demoted to the reserve team after the club released a statement saying he had issued a pay rise ultimatum in protest at the salaries paid to new signings Hulk and Axel Witsel. He also refused to play against Krylya Sovetov.

Despite having missed three league games and one Champions League match, the midfielder, who has spent his entire career with the club, was called into Fabio Capello's Russia squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Azerbaijan.

And Denisov is grateful for being included by Capello, while he is also determined to sort things out with his club.

"I want to thank the head coach for keeping faith and calling me into the national team for these games," he said. "I'll do everything I can to repay the trust.

"As concerns Zenit, having read the reports in the press, I think this is unfair to me at the very least.

"And I'll do everything possible to work things out with the club and close this matter when I get back from the national team."

Despite having spent three weeks with the Zenit reserves and lacking top-level match practice, Denisov is adamant he is still ready to pull on the Russian shirt.

"I'm 100 percent ready for tomorrow's game," he added.
